Privacy Policy

Dial Flipper is made by Dial Media, LLC, a Delaware limited liability company. This policy covers the Dial Flipper iOS app and the dialflipper.com website. It explains what we collect, why, and what you can do about it.
We have tried to write this in plain language. If anything here is unclear, email us at hello@dialflipper.com and we will explain it.
What we collect
Your account. Dial Flipper creates an account for you automatically when you first open the app, so you can start listening right away. It holds no name or email unless you link an Apple or Google account, in which case we receive your name and email address from that provider. If you hide your email through Apple, we only ever see Apple's private relay address.
What you listen to. The podcasts and episodes you play, and how you interact with the content in the app.
What you search for. The words you type into search, and which result you picked.
Your device and the app. A device identifier we generate when you install the app, along with your app version, iOS version, device model, language, and network type.
Your IP address. Our servers and service providers receive it whenever the app connects to the internet.
How the app is performing. Diagnostic records that tell us whether the app is working, so we can find and fix problems. These are linked to your account so we can trace a specific issue.
Anything you send us. If you submit feedback or contact support, please do not include information you would rather we did not have.
What we don't do
- We don't sell your personal information.
- We don't share it with data brokers.
- We don't let other companies track you across other apps and websites through Dial Flipper.
- We don't use your listening history to train AI models unrelated to Dial Flipper.
We may share or publish aggregate statistics about how Dial Flipper is used, such as how many people played a given episode. Aggregate statistics describe groups of listeners and cannot be traced back to you.
How we use it
- To run the app, which includes playing episodes, remembering where you left off, and keeping you signed in.
- To decide what to play next, and to make recommendations that match your taste.
- To understand how people use Dial Flipper so we can make it better. We use a product analytics service for this, and it runs whenever you use the app.
- To find and fix bugs, especially playback problems.
- To keep the service secure and prevent abuse.
- To send you email about Dial Flipper, as described below.
Emails from us
If you have linked an Apple or Google account, we may email you about new features, improvements, and new content on Dial Flipper. We may also send you email we need to send, such as a message about your account or a reply to something you asked us.
Every promotional email includes a link to unsubscribe. Unsubscribing stops the promotional email and does not affect your account or the messages we need to send you. You can also email hello@dialflipper.com and ask us to stop.
Companies that help us run Dial Flipper
- Our cloud database and hosting provider (Supabase), which stores your account and everything associated with it.
- Our product analytics provider (PostHog), which receives the usage information described above.
- Apple and Google, but only if you choose to link one of those accounts, and only as part of signing you in.
- Podcast publishers and their hosting providers. Dial Flipper does not host podcast audio. When you play an episode or load cover art, your device connects directly to the publisher's own server, the same way it would in any podcast app or web browser. Those companies see your IP address because that is how the internet delivers a file. We don't send them your name, your account, or anything about what else you listen to on Dial Flipper.
We require any company that receives your information to protect it at least as well as this policy describes, and to use it only to provide services to us, not for their own purposes.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or if we need to protect the safety or rights of our users or ourselves.
How long we keep it
We keep information for as long as it is needed for the purposes described in this policy.
Operational and diagnostic records include the logs that let us prevent abuse, fix playback problems, and keep the service running. We keep those for as long as they remain useful for those purposes. Aggregate statistics that are no longer connected to you may be kept indefinitely.
When you delete your account, we handle your information as described below.
Deleting your account
You can delete your Dial Flipper account at any time from Settings in the app. This works whether or not you have linked an Apple or Google account.
When you delete your account, we remove your account, your sign-in identity, any name and email address associated with it, and the Dial Flipper data stored on your device.
We keep information about how the app was used in a form that is no longer connected to you, your account, or your device, and we use it to understand how Dial Flipper performs and to keep improving it. Once information has been disconnected this way, we cannot link it back to you.
Some information may persist in routine backups, which are deleted after seven days, and in provider logs we do not control. It is not restored to active use.
Reviewing and changing your information
You can see and change most of what we hold about you from inside the app: the shows you follow, and your playback preferences. Your name and email come from Apple or Google, so you change those with the provider.
For anything else, such as a question about what we hold or a correction, email hello@dialflipper.com and we will help.
Children
Dial Flipper is not intended for anyone under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
Podcasts are made by other people, and some contain mature content. Please check the App Store age rating to decide whether Dial Flipper is right for you.
Our website
dialflipper.com uses a privacy-focused analytics service (Vercel Web Analytics) that records page views, referring links, approximate location, and browser and device type. It does not use cookies to follow you between sites, and it discards the identifier it uses to group a visit after 24 hours. This website analytics is separate from the app and is not connected to your Dial Flipper account.
Do Not Track. Some browsers can send a "Do Not Track" signal. There is no shared standard for how services should respond, and dialflipper.com does not currently respond to these signals. We do not allow third parties to collect personal information about your activity across other websites through our site.
Security
We protect your information with encryption in transit, access controls on our systems, and a small number of people who can reach production data. No service can promise perfect security, but we treat your listening history as something private, because it is.
Changes to this policy
We will post any updated version of this policy on this page with a new effective date at the top. Changes take effect when we post them, so it is worth checking back occasionally. If we want to use information we have already collected in a genuinely new way, we will ask you first.
